Wimbledon Fever!

I may be a little late with this blog post, especially with this topic in particular, but I figured I may as well upload this anyway because: 1. I want to share this experience with you all and 2. It's pretty cool to talk about, regardless of it being over until next year.

As you may or may not have known, the Wimbledon Championships ran from the 24th June, to the 7th July. This is where tennis players from all around the world come to SW19 (South West London) to compete against eachother to become the champions of Wimbleon 2013. I have honestly never really had much of an interest in Wimbledon or even tennis at all, this however was until my boyfriend got a temp job working as a groundsman at Wimbledon, from then on I felt like I really should take much of an interest, and I'm honestly really glad I did.

On the 26th June, I was lucky enough to be given grounds passes for the day! These tickets allowed us to walk around the grounds, see the courts and all the players practising or playing on the outdoors courts, and it really was an amazing experience.

I don't know about you, but when it comes to thousands people getting together to be passionate or patriotic about something, I'm all over that - for the Queens diamond jubilee I was super patriotic! This random tv burst of patriotism involved me painting my nails with the union jack, watching every event on the, changing all my backgrounds to something typically British and even buying patriotic candles and cushions for my room! (A little crazy I know)

When going to Wimbledon for the first time, I didn't go my crazy partiotic/passionate crazy self by wearing a Wimbo t-shirt, tennis gear or sporting the classic green and purple, instead this time, I felt so connected with the crowds and the atmosphere and it's probably something that will stick with me now every year the champs are on and any other event I go to :)  When inside, myself and my buddy for the day, Jess, walked around all the outdoors courts, briefly watched a few games, saw my boyfriend for a little while until it started raining and he had to leave to work (boo rain) , sat on Henman Hill to watch the Centre court games, and best of all, ate Strawberries and cream and drank Pimms. Very classic British Wimbledon spirit :)

Here are some pictures I took from the day:

Big Screen opposite 'Henman Hill' which showed Centre Court and other games for people who couldn't get to watch the game itself

Best Pimms you'll probably ever drink. Probably the most expensive to.
On the final week of the championships I was in Cyprus (If you haven't and would like to see my blog about my holiday then click HERE) . Despite being in another country, it didn't stop me and many others from watching the mens and women's finals, and a few other games that were on in the evenings. Getting interested in the tennis actually allowed me to make friends on holiday and gave me something to talk about which is actually a real shock for me because I didn't think watching two people hit a ball to and from each other would be something I would take an interest in, but I guess people can change right?!

Watching the mens final between Djokovic and Murray, had to be one the craziest experiences ever, and one of the memories i'll take away from my holiday! The hotel lobby was packed with people screaming for Murray, when he won, it was literally incredible, seeing all these people who have never met before, act like they know now the person cheering next to them and celebrate Murray's success together was amazing and I would re-live that moment any day :)

Anyway enough blubbering from me! I hope you enjoyed this blog! Have you ever been to Wimbledon? Or want to go? Let me know in the comments and also leave your blog links so I can check you out :) Also if you want to check out Wimbledon and find out more, check out their website
